Week 9 and Client Meeting

This week, and over the weekend, my teammate Alyssa and I worked hours on the prototypes. Since we had to do a responsive site, we split up the work, and after hours and hours of assuring that they are a good quality, we finished the prototypes! We had some troubles at first figuring out how to do the menu and online ordering page, but on Wednesday night, I talked to a fellow Design major during the Art Club meeting and he suggested a different way of going about it. This really helped me, and I immediately applied the changes to the prototypes after talking to Alyssa about making some changes to the menu section of the prototypes.
Overall it was a lot of work to complete all the prototypes, but it was extremely rewarding when our other client, Jeremy came and said that he LOVED the prototypes, and said they were exactly what he and Audrey were looking for. At first I was nervous that they weren't quite what they wanted, but to hear and see how impressed he was with our work really boosted my confidence. Needless to say, Alyssa and I shared a high-five afterwards for getting the job done the way Jeremy liked it. Below are a few screens from each device:

Week 8

This week was a shortened week due to fall break, so we only met on Thursday. We mainly began working on our prototypes and received the business plan from our one client, Audrey which featured some of the content that will be on the website. We will still need more information in the future when the website is being built, but for now what she has emailed us is enough to essential get an idea of what Audrey and Jeremy want featured on their website.

Week 7 Update and Client Meeting

This week, we mainly worked on our page prototypes and elements collages, as you will see below

We were supposed to meet with Audrey's brother, but unfortunately he didn't show up, which gave us more time to work on the prototypes. I feel like we still have alot of work to do on them, but I feel like we are heading in the right direction.

Team Geek Ch. 3 Reflection

Chapter Three basically discussed leadership and the different types of leaderships that are effective and ineffective. The difference between a leader and manager I feel is very effective because a manager worries about how things get done, while a leader worries about what will get done. The issue was discussed on the fact that engineers don't always want to be team leaders for fear of not being able to not write code as much, but people with the impatient personality will tend to lead naturally anyways, so you could essentially wind up "accidentally" becoming a leader. Tips were given in terms of the leader's perspective of hiring as well, which included what NOT to do in order to have an effective, hard-working, equal team. One aspect of hiring that I found to be difficult if I were in that position, would be to seek to replace yourself. It's sometimes hard to measure ourselves to someone else to see if they could replace me someday, because it is in my nature to treat everyone equally. The final point that I found to be useful was the extrinsic vs. intrinsic motivation. Extrinsic motivation comes from outside sources (ex. monetary sources), while intrinsic motivation comes from within ourselves. In order to promote intrinsic motivation in workers you, as a leader, must give people autonomy (employee acts on their own without micromanaging them), mastery (give engineer opportunity to learn new skills and improve existing skills), purpose (give a reason to do the work).

Week 6: Client Meeting and Weekly Update

This week, we worked on adjusting our Visual Inventory, and started our elements collage and page prototypes. Since we are designing a responsive site, we had to create an elements collage for each device (mobile, tablet, computer), and nine prototypes (three for each device).

For today, we met up with Audrey again and showed her our Visual and Content Inventories, which she seemed satisfied with. She particularly liked the Martin Auer website in terms of its modern, simplistic feel. We also showed her the prototype of the first mobile page, which featured the new logo that we designed. She was very pleased with how it's starting out, and really likes the new logo. That makes us even more excited to continue with the prototypes.

Update on Sven's Cafe:
- Audrey and Jeremy are pretty much abandoning the thought of having an airstream for their business, and pursuing another property. Jeremy is a manager at the Fresh Farms Cafe, and the owner has chosen to want to sell the building to him and Audrey. Fresh Farms Cafe is very similar to Sven's Cafe, with fresh, healthy foods, and is in an ideal location. We can't wait to see if this plan works out for them!
